2020 — 2023 (excerpt)
In twentytwenty, I wanted to keep making work with the natural world. Unable to drive out of the city + limited to a small suburban radius I photographed nature at my doorstep, almost exclusively in my suburb, always walking. I thought a lot about the politic of working with the hyper-local. In this time of ecological emergency I needed somehow to remain hopeful - to try and dream of repair; to nurture positive imaginaries. The work is a large assembly of seemingly contending elements - film-based and digital photographs made in a variety of formats, colour & bw, found objects, video, collages and mini-paintings. It de-centres the human urban experience and rather actions the built environment as a mini-ecology in which other animals and forms of life exist, thrive, belong and reign.
